无量清净慧 皆依禅定生 吴明
佛陀立一大藏教,法有三焉:一者戒律;二者禅定;三者智慧;是则名为三无漏学。约功用言,三者各有其用,如《成实论》说:“戒如捉贼,定如缚贼,慧如杀贼。”约先后言,三者次第相生,如《楞严经》说:“摄心为戒,因戒生定,因定生慧。”小乘佛法,声闻修学四谛,缘觉修学十二因缘。大乘佛法,菩萨修学六度。小乘三学,大乘六度,无不以“增上定学──禅波罗密”为中心。《大品经》曰:“菩萨从初以来,住禅波罗密中,具足修一切佛法,乃至坐道场,成一切种智,起转法轮,是名菩萨次第行、次第学、次第道。”《圆觉经》曰:“一切诸菩萨,无碍清净慧,皆依禅定生。”天台二祖慧思禅师《诸法无诤三昧法门》曰:“无量佛法功德,一切皆从禅定生。”东密龙猛菩萨造《金刚顶宗发菩提心论》曰:“惟真言法中即身成佛故,是故说三摩地法,于诸教中,阙而不书。”藏密宗喀巴大师著《菩提道次第略论》曰:“经说三乘一切功德,皆是止观之果,大小乘三摩地皆于止观中摄。”所以华严五祖宗密圭峰大师断言:“三乘学人,欲求圣道,必须修禅,离此无门,离此无路。”可见小乘之增上三学,大乘之六波罗密多,显教之明心见性,密教之即身成佛,般若乘之行愿,金刚乘之修法,均修持禅定。盖佛法之根本在般若,而般若之证得则在禅定也。所谓佛学,实质就是戒、定、慧三无漏学;所谓学佛,就是持戒、修定、证慧。由持戒而生定,由修定而证慧,由证慧而成佛。 戒——止恶修善——律藏所诠——依戒而资定 定——息虑静缘——经藏所诠——依定而发慧 慧——破惑证真——论藏所诠——依慧而成佛 戒为修定之基础,慧为修定之成果。故三无漏学中,定法实为戒慧二法之中心,亦为全部佛法修证之基础。盖由定而使戒体庄严,慧用通明,八万四千方便法门,皆乘定力而入菩提果海。各宗修法,皆定所摄。所以佛教,无论大小乘、显密教、性相宗、渐修顿悟、易行难行、自力他力,无不归宗三学,而三学亦无不融摄各宗。一切法门均须从般若上起修,一切修持均须从禅定上求证。佛法之真理即为般若,修持之方法便是禅定。三学终极,自然圆融,即戒即定即慧,无一法而非戒,无一法而非定,无一法而非慧。此三学圆融与圆融三学之妙行,即观照般若与实相般若之行证也。然亦须次第修行而入圆融,以圆融观照从次第修行也。 编者附言此文系作者《佛法禅定论·甲篇序论》之《绪言一》。该书约50万言,正在撰写中。本刊特将《绪言一》中论及禅定重要性一节先行刊布,以飨读者。
